Murphy beds with a smooth front are the most classic and oldest murphy bed model. They cause the biggest surprise when they suddenly appear in the space of the room (“Is this the bed here?”.) And enjoy unchanging popularity. Transforms offer includes as many as 6 models of this type of beds: single, double, horizontally and vertically opening, and even a bunk bed. Today we present two models of Transforms beds: vertically opening Smartbed V and Smartbed IV.
Murphy beds with a smooth front – Smartbed V and Smartbed IV
A common feature of both beds, in addition to the vertical opening mechanism, is the smooth front. In the composite version they look almost identical. Why almost? About this in a moment. The front of the bed is a laminated board, the color of which can be selected from several dozen color and stylistic versions. Therefore, both beds can be adapted to any arrangement of the room. Each of these beds can be an independent piece of furniture (as it is in the pictures from our latest implementations) or you can integrate it into a fully enclosed wall. Then we get a uniform, smooth surface of the whole, in which it will be difficult to see the hidden bed.
Both beds also have several width variants in the double version; for mattresses 140/160 / 18cm wide and 200cm long. Each of them has the same depth of 40 centimeters. The same mechanism supporting the quick and easy opening and closing of the bed – gas cylinders. Also, the load capacity of the beds – 200 kg is the same. Where is the difference?
Smartbed V and Smartbed IV murphy beds – the devil is in the details
The secret of the difference between the two models of murphy beds lies in their … legs. In the Smartbed V model, the legs are located on the long edge of the frame. They open and fold automatically when opening and closing the bed. In the Smartbed IV model, the legs are mounted on the shorter edge of the bed frame. When opening, they slide out of the contour of the faceplate, and when folded, they hide under its outline. The question is, does it matter? Yes, that’s a whole 4mm difference. Where do these 4 mm hide? This is the difference in the width of the gap between the front and the housing of the bed. Smartbed IV has a perfectly fitted front to the housing, in the Smartbed V the gap is slightly wider which can be seen clearly in the first photo. Does it matter in everyday use? No However, when we want to perfectly match the bed to the wall, choosing Smartbed IV, we will achieve an even better effect of “invisible” bed.
